How to use PhotoUnlocked
Prepare photos here. Make your edits in Apple Photos. Your original stays unchanged.
1. Prepare a photo
Tap + on the home screen to choose up to 10 photos from Photos or Files. Or open the camera to take a new photo. Choose Portrait, Photographic Styles, and Texture in Settings before you start.
2. Wait for Saved
Keep PhotoUnlocked open while your photos are prepared and saved. If a photo is stored in iCloud, you’ll see Downloading first. Preparing means PhotoUnlocked is adding the selected editing data.
3. Edit in Apple Photos
Open Photos and find the recently saved PhotoUnlocked image. Tap Edit, choose an available Portrait or Styles tool, make your adjustments, then tap Done. PhotoUnlocked prepares photos; you edit them in Apple Photos.
Your original stays unchanged
PhotoUnlocked saves a new image with today’s date and a PhotoUnlocked filename. Imports keep the photo’s current crop and edits. Features you enable replace their editable data in the new image.
HDR
Imported SDR and HDR photos keep their existing HDR state. For camera captures, HDR On preserves native camera HDR when available. HDR Off saves SDR. HDR is off by default. PhotoUnlocked does not add HDR to imported SDR photos.
Photos access and iCloud
Allow Camera access to take photos and Photos access to import and save. With limited Photos access, choose the photos PhotoUnlocked can use. If access is denied, open iOS Settings from the access message. iCloud photos need an internet connection to download.
If a photo fails
After fixing a connection or access issue, tap the yellow retry button. Tap the red trash button to remove a failed item from PhotoUnlocked. Removing an item does not delete the original in Photos.
If an editing control is missing
Make sure the item says Saved, then open the newly prepared PhotoUnlocked image in Photos and tap Edit. Confirm the feature was enabled before preparing the image. Photo editing in Photos requires iOS 27 or later. If the control is still missing, use Settings → Share feedback in PhotoUnlocked and tell us which feature you selected.
Share feedback from the app
Open Settings → Share feedback to report a problem, share an idea, or tell us what you like. You can add a screenshot if you choose. PhotoUnlocked includes the app version, iOS version, and device model in the email draft. Nothing is sent until you tap Send in your email app.
